Vlotkamp: a hotel complex on the water in Belgium

A unique hotel complex Vlotkamp appeared in Belgium, which will please fans of non-standard vacation. Its main highlight is the accommodation – on the lake.
Vlotkamp is located in the Flanders region and includes eight separate modules in the form of tents, which are installed on a special raft with barriers. The basis of the module is made of metal pipes, which create a solid frame. The authors of the project are Belgian architectural studio STAAV, led by Tobias Knockaert and Kika Merlin.
To relax in such an unusual hotel, you will have to exert a little effort. You can reach it only by water, for example, by boat. Modules, which are full rooms, are located on the lake at varying distances from each other. The rafts are fixed by fasteners, but only on one side, and depending on the direction of the wind, the modules move on the water. This unusual solution allows visitors to enjoy the view of the lake and the surrounding nature from different angles. The mounting system, despite such flexibility, provides high reliability, and the guests of the complex do not have to worry about their safety during the vacation. The anchoring system has no problem with withstanding a strong storm.

The Vlotkamp hotel complex

The Vlotkamp hotel complex is designed with the environment in mind. The rafts are equipped with recycled plastic barrels and the perimeter of the base is made of used car tires. Thanks to them, the modules do not feel the impact when mooring a boat or yacht.
Inside the tent, there is a double mattress, a huge number of pillows, and various decorative elements, which give the room a cozy feeling. Inside the module, there is a bio-toilet. The raft also has a terrace with a table and two chairs. Here you can spend amazingly beautiful lunches and dinners, watch nature and enjoy the silence.
Most often hotels on the water are associated with ocean resorts, such as the Maldives. However, Europe also boasts original complexes.
In Estonia, there is a recreation center called Paekalda, which offers tourists to stay in the original camping boxes. They are located on Lake Rummu, which used to be a quarry. Each cabin has a glass wall, through which you can enjoy a picturesque view of the surrounding nature. The barrel is designed for three guests, great for a family with two adults and a child. There are a total of 5 comfortable rooms at the lake.
You may also rest in a bungalow-hotel in Switzerland, where on Lake Neuchâtel there are cozy cottages on stilts. Palafitte complex positions itself as the only resort with underwater housing in Europe. The lodges are staggered so you can view the lake and the surrounding Alps from any room.
